Steel Valley's Murray player of year; Steele coach of year

Written by Mike White on .

The Steel Valley football team dominated its way to WPIAL and PIAA titles this season and the Ironmen swept the player of the year and coach of the year awards on the Class 2A all-state teams.

The Pennsylvania Football Writers All-State Teams for 2A, 4A and 6A are being released this morning. The first to be released is Class 2A and Steel Valley running back DeWayne Murray has been selected the Pennsylvania 2A Player of the Year while Steel Valley's Rod Steele is the Coach of the Year.

Murray (pictured) rushed for 2,094 yards on 163 carries this season, an average of 12.8 yards-per-carry. He finished his career as the sixth-leading rusher in WPIAL history with 6,503 yards and third on the all-time touchdowns list with 114.

Meanwhile, under Steele, the Ironmen won WPIAL and PIAA championships and became the first school in Pennsylvania to win every game of the season by the mercy rule.

Murray was one of two Steel Valley players to make the all-state team. Pitt recruit Paris Ford was selected at defensive back. He also was a standout receiver and is ranked among the top 100 players in the country by Rivals.com.

Ford is one of two Pitt recruits on the all-state team. The other is Neshannock tight end Tyler Sear. Neshannock also had Frank Antuono selected to the all-state team. Although Antuono became the second WPIAL QB to pass for 5,000 yards and run for 2,000 in a career, he made the all-state team at linebacker. He has committed to Robert Morris to play linebacker.

Here is the 2A all-state team:
