Class 1A and 3A all-state teams released ... Wade, Matsook receive honors

The Class 1A and 3A Pennsylvania Football Writers All-State Football Teams were released this morning along with players of the year and coaches of the year. The WPIAL had one player of the year and one coach of the year.

Clairton's Lamont Wade was named the 1A Player of the Year while Beaver Falls' Ryan Matsook was selected the 3A Coach of the Year. 

Wade, a running back-defensive back, finished his career as the third all-time leading rusher in WPIAL history with just over 7,000 yards. He announced Saturday night he will attend Penn State. He was recruited as a defensive back.

Meanwhile, Beaver Falls' Matsook guided the Tigers to their first PIAA title and first WPIAL championship since 1984. Beaver Falls lost its first game of the year to Aliquippa, but never lost the rest of the season. Beaver Falls defeated Aliquippa in the WPIAL title game and Middletown in the PIAA championship.

The 1A, 3A and 5A all-state teams are scheduled to be released this morning. So far, the 1A and 3A teams have been released. The 5A team will be released later this morning, The all-state teams for the other three classifications will be released tomorrow.

Overall, the WPIAL had five players on the 1A all-state team and five on the 3A team. Here are the teams:
