Mt. Lebanon's Alex Bookser commits to Pitt .... Are Nicholson and McKenzie next?

Written by Mike White on .

Gateway receiver-defensive back Montae Nicholson and Washington running back Shai McKenzie will both announce their college decisions in the next two days. Pitt is one of the finalists for both.

But Pitt landed another WPIAL player tonight. It's just that this player didn't need to have a news conference to announce his decision.

Mt. Lebanon offensive lineman Alex Booker made a verbal commitment to Pitt. It is a good catch for Pitt as Bookser is rated a four-star offensive lineman by Rivals.com. Bookser also made official visits to Penn State, Ohio State and Tennessee.

Bookser (pictured) is 6 feet 6, 295 pounds. He was a Post-Gazette Fabulous 22 selection and was named all-state today.

What's funny about Bookser is he was recruited as an offensive lineman, but coaches in the WPIAL Class AAAA Southeastern Conference selected him first-team all-conference as a defensive lineman.

Bookser is one of two top offensive linemen from the WPIAL who chose Pitt. The other is Bethel Park's Mike Grimm.

Nicholson will make his announcement tomorrow. His finalists are Pitt, Michigan State, Virginia Tech, Florida State and Oregon. A few sources close to Nicholson believe Pitt is the leader with possibly Michigan State next in line. But they said they couldn't guarantee Nicholson will choose Pitt.

McKenzie will announce his decision Friday. He tweeted tonight "ready for Friday" and had a picture with three hats - Pitt, Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech.

If Pitt lands Nicholson and McKenzie along with Bookser it will give the Panthers' recruiting class a big lift.
