Pitt women get another top Seton-LaSalle player

Written by Mike White on .

New Pitt womens basketball coach Suzie McConnell-Serio has now landed two high school players ranked among the top 100 in the country.

Both are from her alma mater.

Yacine Diop of Seton-LaSalle High School has made a verbal commitment to Pitt. Diop is a 5-foot-10 senior guard who is ranked No. 84 in the country by ESPN HoopGurlz. P-G colleague Brad Everett has the news and will have more on Diop in tomorrow's Post-Gazette.

Earlier this year, Seton-LaSalle's Naje Gibson also committed to Pitt. She is a 6-foot senior forward who is ranked No. 59 in the country.

McConnell-Serio was a former star guard at Seton-LaSalle who graduated from there in 1984. Getting Diop and Gibson are big catches for McConnell-Serio. Former Pitt coach Agnus Berenato  missed out on many top WPIAL players over the years.

Diop is originally from Senegal and has yet to play at Seton-LaSalle. She transferred from Oak Hill Academy before her junior year but the WPIAL and PIAA ruled her ineligible for the entire season, saying she transferred for athletic intent. I have never seen Diop play, but I hear she is extremely talented and a versatile guard.

Gibson will be in her fourth year as a starter for Seton-LaSalle.
