People around the country apparently have taken notice of how strong North Allegheny's football team was this season.

NA_celebrate_HersheyNorth Allegheny finished 16-0 after clubbing Coatesville, 63-21, in the PIAA Class AAAA championship Saturday. The win vaulted North Allegheny into the top 10 in MaxPreps' rankings. The Tigers also moved near the top in another national ranking.

North Allegheny finished the season at No. 7 in the MaxPreps.com rankings. The Tigers jumped 11 spots from last week when they were No. 18.

North Allegheny also moved a few spots in the USA Today rankings, going from No. 15 to 12.

But The National Prep Report rankings think really highly of North Allegheny. The National Prep Report rankings, which have been in existence for 25 years, had North Alleheny No. 3 in the country. Two weeks ago, the Tigers were No. 8

Other notes

**** The scoring of Jeannette girls basketball player Ciara Gregory so far this season has been remarkable. Gregory, a senior guard, is averaging 37.3 points a game. She had 36 last night against Riverview. In her first three games, she scored 40, 39 and 34 points.

When asked if she can keep up this scoring pace, Gregory didn't really know how to answer. "I guess we'll have to wait and see," she said with a laugh.

The junk defenses will show up everywhere against Gregory, but she should be used to those by now. Gregory led the WPIAL in scoring last year.

**** Maverick Rowan has made quite the impression in his freshman year at Lincoln Park. Rowan is averaging 27 points a game. He already is 6-6 and has a sweet shooting stroke.
