The Penguins took a 2-1 series lead Wednesday against the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Eastern Conference final, with help from their "HBK Line" of Carl Hagelin, Nick Bonino and Phil Kessel.
The line's nickname is a nod to former WWE wrestler Shawn Michaels, who's known as "The Heartbreak Kid" or "HBK" in the wrestling world. The line's popularity has grown thanks to Twitter, where the San Antonio-based Michaels has become an active supporter of the Penguins and their HBK Line.
The Penguins' official Twitter account formally invited Michaels to Game 5 of the Eastern Conference final Sunday in Pittsburgh.
And the Heartbreak Kid obliged Thursday night in an announcement on Facebook.
Former Steelers defensive end Brett Keisel even offered to save Michaels a seat at the game, which Michaels said he'd take Keisel up on.
I'll save a seat for you @ShawnMichaels— Brett Keisel (@bkeisel99) May 19, 2016
One of Michaels' other nicknames during his wrestling career was The Headliner, and he has been living up to that this week. He's sure to make more headlines when he attends Game 5 tonight at Consol Energy Center.
UPDATE, 4:55 p.m. Thursday: The Primanti Bros. restaurant chain got in on the Michaels mania by introducing an HBK sandwich featuring ham, bacon and kielbasa, beginning Friday.
I leave you today with what may be the cheesiest song ever written: HBK's theme.
