A few quick notes from Pitt's eighth practice of the spring season...
- As expected, sophomore running back Rushel Shell was not in attendance. Pitt coach Paul Chryst released a statement this afternoon, which you can read below, saying Shell will take some "time away from football." Chryst declined to comment on Shell's situation after practice, only referring to the statement. From what I have heard, there hasn't been much change in the situation today. Shell is still considering a transfer, but has not formally requested his paperwork to do so. The next step will likely be either a return to the team or a request for a formal release, which would pretty much seal the deal on his departure. The timetable seems pretty open-ended at this point, but I can't imagine it lasting too much longer.
- Linebacker Deaysean Rippy, who I know has been the subject of transfer rumors as well, was in attendance and fully participated in practice today.
- Pitt hosted about 75 recruits at practice today, mostly current high school juniors, but a few sophomores as well. Class of 2013 signees Zach Challingsworth and Devon Edwards were also in attendance, as was former Pitt coach Walt Harris.
