BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Greetings, ladies and gentlemen from the Old Grey Lady, also known as Legion Field. Pitt and Ole Miss are set to go in just a few hours to wrap up their respective 2012 seasons (even though it's now 2013). Here are a few notes to leave you with before we get set for some southern hospitality and serious footballl...
- Here's a link to my preview story from today's Post-Gazette, about how this trip to Birmingham is more of the same and yet totally different for the Panthers. Here's my notebook from today's paper about preparing for Ole Miss' "SEC speed."
- Those red dots you see in the picture above are red pom poms laid out for the Ole Miss cheering sections. It has been well-documented at this point, but all indications point towards a heavily pro-Rebel crowd today. BBVA Compass Bowl officials are expecting record-breaking attendance today (upwards of 50,000) and pretty much all of that is coming from Oxford, Miss. (about a three-hour drive away).
- This is in the notebook, but worth highlighting: With Arthur Doakes serving a suspension for violating team rules, Zenel Demhasaj will get the start for Pitt on the offensive line. He'll start at right tackle, with Matt Rotheram sliding into guard. I think there's at least a decent chance Rotheram will move to guard full-time next season, so this could serve as a trial run of sorts.
