West Virginia will learn later today what bowl game they’re headed to.
The long and short of it is that it’s most likely the Mountaineers end up at the Holiday Bowl in San Diego or the Pinstripe Bowl in New York City – not necessarily in that order.
Holiday Bowl officials have made it clear West Virginia will be on their short list with a 7-5 finish, which they accomplished Saturday night with a 59-10 drubbing of Kansas. But certainly Texas Tech or another Big 12 team could earn that spot. If that happens, it should be the Pinstripe Bowl.
The team will officially know by late Sunday afternoon after the final BCS standings shake out.
Dana Holgorsen said in his post-game remarks that it matters not which bowl game the team gets because they’re all fun.
“We have some obvious star power,” said Holgorsen. “Our fans travel well. I would think there would be a whole bunch of bowls that would want us in their game.”
His players, however, sang a different tune, expressing a very specific desire to go where the sun shines warm in December.
