Tuesday News&Notes

Written by Jenn Menendez on .

West Virginia players return to practice this afternoon after collecting a win at Iowa State that snapped the program’s longest losing streak in more than two decades.

Next up is Kansas, winless in the Big 12 this season (0-8), but according to Dana Holgorsen a threat because of the ability of the offense to do so many different things.

“It’s going to be challenging from a scheme standpoint. These guys do a lot of different things. We don’t. And a lot of teams in our conference don’t…It’s our philosophy not to change a whole lot from week to week,” said Holgorsen at his weekly press conference.

“At this time of the year kind of who you are is who you are. With Kansas, it’s a situation, where especially offensively and special teams-wise they do a variety of things. Which means we’ve got 11 games to look at and the challenge is going to be trying to figure out what their approach is going to be. If we don’t recognize that, then we’re going to have to do a great job in game of trying to recognize what they do.”

The Jayhawks are among the top-20 in the country in the running game, at No. 19 with an average of 216.64 rushing yards a game.

Injury Update

Corner Ishmael Banks will miss the Kansas game with an injury, but may be ready to go by the bowl game, according to Holgorsen.

OL Curtis Feight and DB Brodrick Jenkins will practice today, with their status for Saturday unclear still.

“Somebody’s gotta step up at corner and make some plays,” said Holgorsen.

Senior Day

Several notable seniors will play their last game at Milan Puskar Stadium on Saturday, most notably QB Geno Smith and WR Tavon Austin.

Holgorsen: “There’s 22 of them that this is going to be the last game they’ll play here for West Virginia. They’re excited about it.”
