MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- The depth needed to compete in the Big 12 is a theme we'll be hearing a lot about with West Virginia this year.
One tidbit of news shared by Coach Dana Holgorsen on Monday night seems fairly promising for the offensive line.
Holgorsen said two freshmen offensive linemen are on the two-deep right now and are pretty impressive:Tyler Orlosky, a 6-foot-4, 290 pounds, and Adam Pankey (6-5, 324 pounds). Both are from Ohio.
“I’ve never had two freshmen run second string,” he said. "That can change if they start getting overloaded or maybe some other guys pick things up.
"The physical nature of these guys is pretty good from a freshman standpoint. A lot of it has to do with the NCAA allowing us to get guys in early and let them work out with the team for two months. That’s obviously beneficial, so physically I’m happy with what we’re seeing."
Holgorsen also mentioned five freshmen wide receivers who sound like they'll be getting some air time.
We've heard a bit about Jordan Thompson already who enrolled last January and played in the spring. On him, Holgorsen said: "That guy is something. He'll play obviously as a true freshmen."
Holgorsen also said freshmen Devonte Robinson (6-1, 170), Devonte Mathis (6-2, 210), Will Johnson (6-6, 245) and Travares Copeland (6-0, 185) are repping a lot.
"If there is a place for them I wouldn’t be opposed to playing all five of them," said Holgorsen.
