-Happy 36th birthday to current Penguins forward Craig Adams. Claimed off waivers from the Blackhawks late in the 2008-09 season, Adams has spent parts of five seasons with the Penguins. He finished 2008-09 by appearing in nine games and recorded one assist. He played in all 24 of the club's playoff games during its run to a third Stanley Cup title and scored five points. In 2009-10, Adams appeared in all 82 games and recorded 10 assists. He saw action in 13 postseason games last spring and contributed three points. During 2010-11, Adams, the only NHL player born in Brunei Darussalam, played in 80 games and recorded 15 points. He played in seven postseason games last spring and had one goal. In 2011-12, he appeared in all 82 games and collected 18 points. In the postseason, he played in five games and did not record a point. This season, Adams has played in 47 games and has nine points. In 300 regular season games with the Penguins he has recorded 53 points. In 48 postseason games, he has scored nine points.

-Happy 43rd birthday to former Penguins defenseman Victor Ignatjev. A free agent signing prior to the 1998-99 season, Ignatjev appeared in 11 games for the Penguins that regular season and recorded three assists. A shoulder injury cost him most of that campaign but he was able to appear in one playoff game for the team that spring. The following offseason, he joined Nurnberg in Germany.

Atlantic Division

-An overtime goal and an assist by captain Ryan Callahan gave the Rangers a 4-3 comeback win against the Hurricanes. Derek Stepan added a goal and an assist for New York while teammates Michael Del Zotto and Carl Hagelin recorded two assists. Henrik Lundqvist made 18 saves in the victory which secured a playoff berth. Jiri Tlusty scored two goals for Carolina.

-Ilya Bryzgalov made 21 saves for the Flyers in a 2-1 win against the rival Islanders. Philadelphia has won three consecutive games.

Northeast Division

-An overtime goal by former Penguin Sergei Gonchar gave the Senators a 2-1 win against the Capitals. Erik Karlsson recorded two assists for Ottawa while teammate Craig Anderson 19 saves. The victory secured a playoff berth for Ottawa.

My conditioning felt good and I think the coach realized that and put me out there when it was my turn.” - Karlsson on his first game back in the lineup after being sidelined 10 weeks due to an Achilles tendon injury.

-Carey Price made 23 saves for the Canadiens in a 4-2 win against the Jets. Lars Eller and P.K. Subban each recorded two assists for Montreal which secured home ice in the first round of the postseason. Winnipeg was officially eliminated from postseason contention.

-Confusing times for Jets coach Claude Noel:

-Tuukka Rask made 30 saves for the Bruins in a 2-0 shutout of the Lightning. It was his 16th career shutout. Tampa Bay has lost seven out of its past eight games.

-A goal and two assists by Pavel Datsyuk led the Red Wings to a 5-2 win against the Predators. Johan Franzen added a goal and an assist for Detroit while teammate Henrik Zetterberg recorded two assists. Jimmy Howard made 20 saves in the victory. Mike Fisher and Craig Smith each collected a goal and an assist for Nashville.

-Jonas Hiler made 28 saves for the Ducks in a 3-1 win against the Canucks. Anaheim won its third consecutive game.

-Team USA named goaltenders Ben Bishop (Tampa Bay), Cal Heeter (Adirondack -AHL), defensemen Chris Butler (Calgary), Matt Carle (Tampa Bay), Justin Faulk (Carolina), Matt Hunwick (Colorado), Jamie McBain (Carolina), Jeff Petry (Edmonton), forwards Nick Bjugstad (Florida), Bobby Butler (Nashville), Danny Kristo (Hamilton - AHL), Craig Smith (Nashville), Tim Stapleton (HC Dinamo Minsk - KHL), Paul Stastny (Colorado) and Nate Thompson (Tampa Bay) to its roster for next month's IIHF World Championships.
