-Happy 61st birthday to former Penguins forward Bernie Lukowich. A second-round pickin 1972, Lukowich appeared in 53 games for the 1973-74 club and recorded 19 points. Midway through the 1974-75 season, he was dealt to the rival Blues in exchange for Bob Stumpf.
-Happy 24th birthday to current Penguins defenseman Robert Bortuzzo. A third-round pick in 2007, Bortuzzo has spent parts of the past two seasons with the Penguins. He made his NHL debut last season by appearing in six games without a point. This season, Bortuzzo has appeared in 11 games and recorded two points. In 17 NHL games, he has two points.

-The Canadiens signed defenseman Darren Dietz, a third-round pick in 2011, to a three-year entry-level contract.
-The Bruins signed forward Alexander Fallstrom to an entry-level contract. Terms of the contract were not reported. Fallstrom was a fourth-round pick of the Wild in 2009 and was acquired by Boston in a 2009 trade.
-Troy Brouwer, Mathieu Perreault and Marcus Johansson each had a goal and an assist for the Capitals in a 5-3 win against the Sabres. Nicklas Backstrom, Mike Ribeiro and Joel Ward each recorded two assists for Washington while teammate Braden Holtby made 27 saves. Cody Hodgson scored two goals for Buffalo.

-The Blackhawks/Canucks rivalry extends to their AHL affiliates. The Rockford IceHogs (Blackhawks) and Chicago Wolves (Canucks) engaged in a wild brawl on the Rockford bench last night:
-A goal and an assist by Jordan Eberle led the Oilers to a 3-2 win against the Predators. Devan Dubnyk made 29 saves in the win. Roman Josi had a goal and an assist for Nashville.

-With goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff attending to the birth of a child, the Flames recalled goaltender Danny Taylor from Abbotsford of the AHL.

-Coyotes defenseman and former Penguin Zbynek Michalek is day-to-day due to a "lower-body" injury.
-Jordan Tibbett made 28 saves and led the Mercyhurst men's team to a 1-0 shutout of Holy Cross in Game 3 an American Hockey Association quarterfinal series. Mercyhurst won the best-of-three series, 2-1, and will face Connecticut in the semifinal round.
