Penguins

 

-Evgeni Malkin (above) will miss tonight's game due to an undisclosed injury.

-If you like offensive skill, tonight's game against the Lightning is up your alley.

-Dan Bylsma speaks:

-"It's going to be weird, for sure. I was with Pittsburgh for quite a long time, especially with a lot of those guys. It's going to be weird, facing off against them. It seems kind of obvious, but it's going to be a fun challenge." - Hurricanes forward Jordan Staal on facing his former team, the Penguins Thursday.

-Hockey Night in Canada's Elliotte Friedman reported on a proposed change in conference realignment last night:

-An overtime goal by Joe Morrow gave the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins a 2-1 win against the Connecticut Whale. Trevor Smith recorded two assists for the Penguins while teammate Jeff Zatkoff made 26 saves.

-Morrow's goal:

-"When I scored there, I didn't really know what to do. I just stood there and smiled." - Morrow.

-Scott Darling made 25 saves for the Wheeling Nailers in a 3-1 loss to the Cincinnati Cyclones.

-After the Jump: The Rangers lose two defensemen and Alex Ovechkin gets a hat trick.

Atlantic Division

-Two goals and an assist by Bradyen Schenn led the Flyers to a 5-3 comeback win against the Jets. Captain Claude Giroux and Wayne Simmonds each collected a goal and an assist for Philadelphia while teammate Jakub Voracek recorded three assists. Ilya Bryzgalov made 34 saves in the victory. Nik Antropov led Winnipeg with a goal and an assist.

-Evgeni Nabokov made 35 saves for the Islanders in a 4-0 shutout of the Sabres. It was his 53rd career shutout. Captain Mark Streit had a goal and an assist for New York while teammate Matt Moulson, a former Penguins prospect, recorded two assists. Fire Ray Shero.

-Happy times for the Islanders. Not so much for Buffalo's Ryan Miller:

Northeast Division

-Carey Price made 17 saves for the Canadiens in a 3-0 shutout of the Rangers. Erik Cole, Lars Eller and Alex Galchenyuk each had a goal and an assist for Montreal.

-The Rangers lost defensemen Ryan McDonagh and Dan Girardi to injuries during the game. First, McDonagh was injured on this hit into the boards by Montreal's Max Pacioretty:

-Then Girardi was injured when he took this shot off the foot from Montrea's P.K. Subban:

-Thinking out Loud: Insert "Subban injured someone's foot" joke here.

-"How high did Pacioretty jump on his hit? Can anybody give me an answer? I'm asking you guys. Can anybody give me an answer? Over-under?" - Rangers coach John Tortorella on the hit.

-Colin Greening had a goal and two assists for the Senators who edged the rival Maple Leafs, 3-2. Erik Condra and Mika Zibanejad each collected a goal and an assist for Ottawa while teammate Ben Bishop made 28 saves.

-A hat trick and an assist by captain Alex Ovechkin led the Capitals to a 5-1 pounding of the Devils. Mike Ribeiro recorded two assists for Washington while teammate Braden Holtby made 21 saves in the victory.

-Happy times here for Howard and teammate Ian White:

-Jaroslav Halak made 19 saves for the Blues in a 2-1 defeat of the Blue Jackets. Columbus has lost four out of its past five games.

-Hit of the Night: St. Louis' Ryan Reaves dropped Columbus' Nikita Nikitin:

-Smooth Goal of the Night: Calgary's Alex Tanguay beat Minnesota's Niklas Backstrom on a breakaway:

-Shootout goals by Sam Gagner and Jordan Eberle gave the Oilers a 3-2 win against the Coyotes. Nikolai Khabibulin made 34 saves in the victory.

Sharks forward Ryane Clowe has been suspended pending a disciplinary hearing with the NHL after he left the bench to start an altercation with Blackhawks foward Andrew Shaw Friday.

-Ducks defenseman Cam Folwer is expected to return to the lineup today after missing eight games due to a suspected head injury.

Smythe Division

-Hockey Night in Canada's opening montage from last night:

-Two goals and an assist by Cody Wydo led the Robert Morris men's team to a 6-3 win against Canisius. The Colonials tied a program record with their 18th win of the season.

-Marc Zanette had a goal and an assist for the Mercyhurst men's team which lost to Niagara, 4-2.

-Kristen DiCiocco made 10 saves and led teh Robert Morris women's team past Penn State, 4-2.

-Kesley Welch had a goal and two assists for the Mercyhurst women's team in a 5-2 win against RIT.

-Chris Truehl made 18 saves for the Johnstown Tomahawks in a 2-1 shootout loss to the Fresno Monsters.
