-Brad Thiessen made 14 saves for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 3-2 loss to the Rochester Americans. The Penguins had a five-game winning streak snapped.

-Forwards Chad Kolarik and Tom Kostopoulos each scored points in their first games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

-A goal and an assist by Zach Hansen led the Wheeling Nailers past the Bakersfield Condors, 3-2. Scott Darling made 28 saves in the victory.

-The Penguins assigned goaltender Patrick Killeeen to the Orlando Solar Bears of the ECHL.

-Penguins owner Ron Burkle is talking to NBA commissioner David Stern about buying the Sacramento Kings.

-Today would've been the 63rd birthday of former Penguins coach Ivan Hlinka. Hired in the 2000 offseason, Hlinka spent parts of two seasosn with the Penguins. In 2000-01, he guided the club to a 42-28-12 record as well as a memorable run to the Eastern Conference final during that seasons' playoffs. After four games and a 0-4-0 record in 2001-02, Hlinka was fired and replaced by Rick Kehoe. The only Czech coach in NHL history, his career regular season record with the Penguins was 42-32-12. Hlinka was killed in a 2004 car accident in the Czech Republic at the age of 54.

-Happy 55th birthday to former Penguins forward Mark Taylor (right). Acquired early in the 1983-84 offseason along with Ron Flockhart, Andy Brickley and draft picks in a deal which sent Ron Sutter and draft picks to the Flyers, Taylor spent parts of two seasons with the Penguins. he finished 1983-84 by appearing in 59 games for the Penguins and scoring 55 points. After 47 games and 17 points in 1984-85, Taylor was traded to the Capitals in exchange for for Jim McGeough. In 106 games with the Penguins, he scored 72 points.

Atlantic Division

-An overtime goal by Ilya Kovalchuk gave the Devils a 3-2 win against the Capitals. Patrik Elias had a goal and an assist for New Jersey while teammate Marek Zidlicky recorded two assists. Martin Brodeur made 26 saves in the victory. Mike Green collected a goal and an assist for Washington which remains winless (0-3-1).

-Rangers forward Chris Kreider is dealing with an ankle injury.

-The Rangers recalled former Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins forward Benn Ferriero from Connecticut of the AHL and assigned forward Kris Newbury to Connecticut.

-With defenseman Andrej Meszaros expected to be sidelined a month due to a left shoulder injury, the Flyers recalled defenseman Andreas Lilja from Adirondack of the AHL.

-"I never really wanted to go, and I said that at the time. It's a place where you feel very comfortable. The staff, the people you see at the rink every day, you know your way around [the city]. It's a great organization and a place I kind of had to leave because of salary-cap reasons." - Forward Mike Knuble on re-joining the Flyers.

Northeast Division

-Tuukka Rask made 24 saves for the Bruins in a 4-2 defeat of the Islanders. Dougie Hamilton recorded two assists for Boston. Keith Aucoin scored both of New York's goals.

-The Sabres are debating on whether or not to return rookie forward Mikhail Grigorenko to his junior club before he reaches five NHL games.

Southeast Division

-Steven Stamkos had a goal and two assists for the Lightning which defeated the Senators, 6-4. Former Penguin Ryan Malone scored two goals for Tampa Bay while teammates Martin St. Louis, Sami Salo and Cory Conacher each recorded two assists.

-It wasn't all bad for Ottawa. Check out the passing which led to this goal by Kyle Turris:

-Prior to the game, Lightning general manager Steve Yzerman presented captain Vincent Lecavalier a silver stick for recently appearing in his 1,000th career game:

-A goal and an assist by Jay Harrison led the Hurricanes past the Sabres, 3-1. Dan Ellis made 40 saves in the victory.

-The Hurricanes assigned forward Jeremy Welsh to Charlotte of the AHL.

-With forward Stephen Weiss dealing with a "lower-body" injury, the Panthers recalled forward Quinton Howden from San Antonio of the AHL.

-After experimenting with him on the right wing, the Capitals have moved captain Alex Ovechkin back to left wing.

Central Division

-Two goals by Todd Bertuzzi led the Red Wings past the Wild, 5-3. Pavel Datsyuk added a goal and two assists for Detroit while teammate Valterri Filppula recorded three assists. Jimmy Howard made 23 saves in the victory. Zach Parise scored two goals for Minnesota.

-Prior to tomorrow's game against the Wild, the Blues will wear No. 6 jerseys in honor of former Cardinals first baseman Stan Musial who passed away last week. The jerseys will be auctioned off for charity.

-With a win against the Blue Jackets tonight, the Blackhawks can start a season with five consecutive wins for the first time in franchise history.

-"I owe it to myself and the organization to try to reach my full potential. I just have to stay focused and keep enjoying every minute I'm on the ice. That's what I'm trying to do this year." Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane on maturing.

Northwest Division

-Cory Schneider made 30 saves for the Canucks in a 5-0 shutout of the Ducks. Mason Raymond scored two goals for Vancouver while teammate Daniel Sedin netted a goal and an assist.

Pacific Division

-With former Penguins captain/forward Jaromir Jagr sidelined due to a back injury, the Stars recalled forward Colton Sceviour from Texas of the AHL.

-With forward Matthew Lombardi dealing with an "upper body" injury, the Coyotes recalled former Penguins forward Nick Johnson from Portland of the AHL.

-The Ducks assigned defenseman Sami Vatanen to Norfolk of the AHL.

-At the request of fans, the Sharks are playing more afternoon home games on the weekends.

Norris Division

-The NHL and NHLPA established escrow for players' salaries at 10 percent for this season.

-"Miracle On Ice" hero Mike Eruzione (right) is auctioning off his jersey from the 1980 Winter Olympics.

-Former Flyers/Predators/Sabres/Blue Jackets defenseman Andy Delmore has joined Bolzano of Italy's Serie A league.

-Former Rangers/Sharks/Predators/Wild forward Jed Ortmeyer has joined the Missouri Mavericks of the CHL.

-Former Sharks forward Alexander Korolyuk has joined Metallurg Magnitogorsk of Russia's KHL.

-Devin Williams made 41 saves for the Erie Otters in a 5-1 loss to the Kitchener Rangers.

-Eric Levine made 24 saves for the Robert Morris men's team in a 2-0 loss to Air Force.

-Matthew Skoff made 27 saves for the Penn State men's team which lost to Michigan State, 5-2.

-Nicole Paniccia made 47 saves for the Penn State women's team in a 1-0 loss to Syracuse.

-Due to weather, the Mercyhurst men's team had its game against Canisius postponed until Tuesday.

-Cody Gylling had a goal and an assist for the Johnstown Tomahawks in a 5-2 loss to the Soo Eagles.
