Written by Seth Rorabaugh on .

"Twenty Years Later" is a segment with a highly unimaginative name which will appear on Empty Netters throughout the 2012-13 season. We will examine the Penguins' 1992-93 season which led to the only President's Trophy in franchise history. The 1992-93 squad is commonly regarded as the most talented in the history of the Penguins. We will look back on games on the date they happened.

Today, we look at the Penguins' 2-1 loss against the Edmonton Oilers, Jan. 22, 1993.

The Penguins had a two-game winning streak snapped at Northlands Coliseum in Edmonton. Following a scoreless first period, the Oilers took a 1-0 lead when defenseman Brad Werenka scored a short-handed goal against goaltender Ken Wregget 10:53 into the second period. Left winger Esa Tikkanennetted the only assist.

Just over a minute later at 13:58, the Penguins tied the game, 1-1, when center Mike Stapleton scored against goaltender Ron Tugnutt. Right winger Shawn McEachern and Joe Mullen collected assists.

At 9:22 of the third period, center Craig MacTavish scored the game-winning goal off assists from right winger Zdeno Ciger and center Shjon Podein.

-Wregget made 14 saves in the win.

-The three stars were: 1.) Tugnutt 2.) Werenka 3.) MacTavish.

-The Penguins allowed their league-leading 15th short-handed goal of the season.
