Penguins

-The lockout? Still going on. (PG+)

-James Mirtle of the Globe and Mail examines what the NHL may be like for fans once it comes back.

-Jeff Zatkoff made 12 saves for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 4-1 loss to the rival Hershey Bears. The Penguins have lost eight of their past nine games.

-Wilkes-Barre/Scranton is 1-5-1 against Hershey this season.

-Simon Despres went at it with Hershey's Cameron Schilling:

-Chris Barton and Luke Pither each had a regulation goal and two assists for the Wheeling Nailers in a 5-4 shootut loss to the Greenville Road Warriors. Peter Delmas made 22 saves for Wheeling which had a six-game winning streak snapped.

-Delmas was named the ECHL's goaltender of the week for Dec. 17-23.

Atlantic Division

-Flyers forward Daniel Briere signed a contract extension with Eisbaren Berlin of Germany's DEL through the end of the season. The contract allows Briere to quit and return to Philadelphia should the lockout be resolved.

Northeast Division

-Canadiens defenseman Josh Gorges (right) organized an outdoor shinny game with Montreal fans through Twitter.

Smythe Division

-The Three Rivers Classic - featuring the men's teams from Robert Morris, Penn State, Ohio State and Miami, Ohio - will be held today and Saturday.

World Junior Championships

-Penguins forward prospect Teddy Bluegers had no points, three shots and was minus-1 for Latvia in a 7-2 loss to Switzerland.

-Capitals forward prospect Riley Barber, a native of Washington, Pa., had a goal and two assists for the United States which routed Germany, 8-0. Duck goaltending prospect John Gibson, a native of Whitehall, made 19 saves and combined with Flames goaltending prospect Jon Gillies (seven saves) to earn a shutout. Rangers forward prospect J.T. Miller, a native of East Palestine, Ohio, had one goal for the United States while teammate Vince Trocheck, a Panthers forward prospect from Upper St. Clair, recorded three shots.
