Akron Zips head coach Keith Dambrot confirmed to the Akron Beacon Journal tonight that he was approached by Duquesne about the head coaching job, but said an offer was never made and he has no plans to leave the Zips.

“They asked if I would be interested.  They never offered me the job,” Dambrot told the Beacon Journal. “I’m not interested in leaving Akron.”

Dambrot, 53, has a long history of success in Akron, with a 162-75 record since taking the job in 2004.

The Zips went 22-12 and just missed a berth in the NCAA tournament this season with a loss in the MAC title game to Ohio University, 64, 63.
