At halftime, I wrote my breaking news gamer as if Robert Morris had won. So you can blame me for jinxing it.
Turning point: Kavon Stewart's three missed free throws with about two minutes to go when the Colonials trailed 71-68. I don't blame the dude because he was clearly very ill and tossing his cookies in a nearby garbage can shortly after missing the shots. But the fact that the series of events had been a Rodney Pryor steal for a Matty McConnell 3-pointer, a St. Francis shot clock violation and then back-to-back drawn fouls for Stewart that resulted in missed free throws that would have tied the game was a bit of a comeback killer. But I feel for him.
Game ball: St. Francis' Yunus Hopkinson. He was 6-for-12 on the day, all 3-pointers. Plus he made all six of his free throws for a game-high 24 points. His shots were like mostly nothing but net, too. Maybe his nickname should be finesse (Easter egg from my previous gamer, if any of you are keeping track).
What it means: Eh. With how tightly packed the top-eight in the conference are, winning all of these last three games might have helped Robert Morris get a higher seed in the tourney. But I doubt it would be enough to get them home-court advantage. So at this point, they made the tournament. And anything can happen once they're in it. So these last few games are quite so devastating if the Colonials bungle it.
What's next: Sacred Heart on the road on Thursday. The team was tied for second in the league with three other teams heading into Saturday. Then it is No. 1 team Wagner next Saturday also on the road. And then that's it for the regular season.
Random shoutout: To Rodney Pryor on senior night. The lone dude holding down the fort. And who knows, he might be back for another senior celebration next year if he decides to try and get another year of eligibility from the NCAA after injuries cost him both his junior college seasons. Or he could go pro. We shall see.
