WVU Football APR: 950

The West Virginia football team's Academic Progress Rate for 2011-2012 is 950, according to figures released today by the NCAA.

That number is well above the 900 score needed to avoid penalties, but is down from 962 in the 2009-2010 academic year, and from the 953 in 2010-2011.

All of West Virginia's athletic programs scored an overall 973 and all 17 varsity teams exceeded the 900 four-year score, which means no team will suffer academic penalties from the NCAA, according to a release distributed this afternoon by the athletic department.

The APR is based on the eligibility and retention of student-athletes and academic success.

“We went from three teams that had perfect scores in 2010-11 to seven teams in 2011-12, and I’m certainly delighted with that progress,” athletic director Oliver Luck said in a statement. “I want to congratulate the men’s basketball, women’s basketball, cross country, gymnastics, indoor track and field, outdoor track and field and wrestling teams for their perfect scores in 2011-12. Overall, our 973 APR score is strong, and I’m pleased that our teams continue to make good academic progress.”
