Isaiah Watkins to transfer

Forward Isaiah Watkins will transfer from Duquesne after one season on the Bluff, Dukes head coach Jim Ferry said Friday. Watkins averaged 1.4 points and 1.4 rebounds per game in limited minutes as a freshman.

"Isaiah is a great kid," Ferry said, "and we wish him the best of luck in his future.”

Watkins, a 6-foot-7 Toronto product, arrived at Duquesne as a three-star recruit, according to He didn't debut until mid-December due to rehab for an offseason knee surgery. At 220 pounds, Watkins was banged around in Atlantic 10 play and never topped 4 points, 5 rebounds or 12 minutes in any of his 16 games.

With the addition of forwards TySean Powell and Jordan Robinson, who was ruled a partial academic qualifier and redshirted last season, Watkins was unlikely to see an increased role in the 2014-15 season.

Ferry said the coaching staff will support Watkins as he looks for a landing sport after Duquesne. Watkins is the second player to transfer this offseason, following guard Tra'Vaughn White.

Duquesne inked four players to national letters of intent in the past two weeks, and Watkins's departure leaves another scholarship open, should Ferry's staff elect to bring in another freshman or a more experienced junior-college prospect.
