West Virginia redshirt junior running back Andrew Buie has re-enrolled in the University for the winter semester and should be ready to go for spring practice in a few short months.
Buie, a 5-foot-9 tailback, was the Mountaineers' leading rusher in 2012 (851 yards) but withdrew from the University in early August after dropping behind RBs Charles Sims, Wendell Smallwood, Dreamius Smith and Dustin Garrison on the team's initial depth chart.
Early speculation of an imminent transfer were quelled when West Virginia coach Dana Holgorsen announced that Buie would redshirt the season, spending the fall back home in Florida, and re-enroll in January.
Though Sims has graduated, the remainder of the stable of running backs will return next season. Add to the mix Buie and redshirt sophomore Rushel Shell, a transfer from Pitt, and it'll be another crowded backfield. Don't expect a true starter to be named until late in fall camp, and even then it'll likely be two or three backs splitting the carries.
