-Happy 70th birthday to former Penguins coach Pierre Creamer. Hired in the 1987 offseason, Creamer coached the Penguins for one season. In 1987-88, he led the club to a 36-35-9 record and 81 points, one short of qualifying for the postseason. In the 1988 offseason, he was replaced by Gene Ubriaco.

-Happy 40th birthday to former Penguins forward Steve Sullivan. A free agent signing in the 2011 offseason, Sullivan appeared in 79 games for the Penguins this during 2011-12 and scored 48 points (17 goals, 31 assists). He saw action in six postseason games in 2012 and scored six points. Following the season, he joined the Coyotes as a free agent.

-Happy 57th birthday to former Penguins forward Ron Duguay. An all-star with the Rangers, Duguay came to the Penguins at the 1986 trade deadline when he was acquired from the Red Wings in exchange for Doug Shedden. He finished the 1985-86 season by appearing in 13 games and scoring 13 points for the Penguins. In 1986-87, Duguay played in 40 games and scored 18 points for the Penguins before he was traded to the Rangers in exchange for Chris Kontos midway through the season. In 53 games with the Penguins, Duguay scored 31 points. He currently works as a broadcaster for MSG Network.

-Happy 38th birthday to former Penguins forward Greg Crozier. A third-round pick in 1994, Crozier didn't make his NHL debut until he appeared in his only NHL game in the 2000-01 season. He signed with the Bruins in the 2001 offseason.

-Happy 32nd birthday to current Penguins defenseman Christian Ehrhoff. A free agent signing this past Tuesday, Ehrhoff has spent 10 seasons in the NHL with the Sharks, Canucks and Sabres before joining the Penguins. In 692 career games, he has scored 313 points.

Atlantic Division

-The Sabres re-signed restricted free agent goaltender Matt Hackett to a one-year two-way contract.

Central Division

-Former Penguins forward Jarome Iginla (right) is pretty serious about trying to win the Stanley Cup with the Avalanche.

-“Speaking with him, I got excited. I wanted to start playing tomorrow.” - New Predators forward Olli Jokinen on head coach Peter Laviolette.

Pacific Division

-The Canucks re-signed restricted free agent defenseman Chris Tanev to a one-year contract worth a total of $2 million. Coming off a contract with a salary cap hit of $1.5 million, Tanev, 24, appeared in 64 games last season and scored 17 points (six goals, 11 assists).

-EN Says: Tanev is a puck-moving defenseman who usually makes the safe play. He doesn't offer much of a physical game. This appears to be a "prove-it" contract for Tanev to prove he has a future with the team.

Smythe Division

-A lawyer for former Avalanche forward Steve Moore has filed paperwork increasing demands from $38 million to $68 million in a lawsuit against former Canucks forward Todd Bertuzzi in regards to an attack by Bertuzzi against Moore in a 2004 game.
