-“I think it’s the league’s job to give [him] a big suspension. I think that’s the way you get that stuff out of the game, to have a big suspension. That’s what we’re trying to do, and I fully support the league going with a big suspension. You can do all the talking you want, but, if you don’t have a big suspension … I think that’s the only way to get that stuff out of the game.” - Jussi Jokinen on the potential suspension of Bruins forward Shawn Thornton for attacking Brooks Orpik last week. Thornton's suspension is expected to be announced today.

-"I’ll make that same hit over and over again. Just because I had a hearing or suspension isn’t going to get it changed, but it is harder to hit small guys when you’re taller. I wouldn’t do anything differently. If I don’t make that hit, I don’t play and I don’t play well. It’s just that maybe I move a little to the left an inch or two. That’s the difference. That’s all that it was." - Senators defenseman Jared Cowen on being suspended two games for hitting Sabres forward Zemgus Girgensons earlier this week.

-EN Says: If there wasn't already overwhelming proof these slap-on-the-wrist suspensions don't get lessons through to players, this meathead just provided it.

-The Flames fired general manager Jay Feaster and assistant general manager John Weisbrod. Brian Burke, the team's president of hockey operations, will serve as acting general manager until a full-time general manager can be found. Feaster served as the team's general manager since midway through the 2010-11 season. Calgary never reached the postseason under his watch.

-EN Says: Feaster came to Calgary at time when the organization was in decline and he found a way to make it worse. He's done an admirable job with regards to stripping it down and setting a foundation to rebuild by bringing in a ton of prospects but given his clumsy way of handling the Iginla trade to the Penguins last season and goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff's retirement this past offseason, Feaster simply ran this franchise into the ground.
