Penguins

-Don't tell Marc-Andre Fleury's (above) teammates he looks shaky.

-With Andrew Ebbett being placed on injured reserve due to a broken ankle, the Penguins recalled forward Harry Zolnierczyk from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Zolnierczyk, 26, has appeared in 18 AHL games this season and scored 12 points (nine goals, three assists).

-Sidney Crosby's ice time has increased roughly two shifts per game.

-Matt Niskanen speaks:

-Eric Hartzell made 24 saves for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 5-0 loss to the St. John's IceCaps.

-Highlights (so to speak):

-The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins played without eight of their top 12 scoring forwards last night.

-Two goals by defenseman Mike Ratchuk, including one in overtime, gave the Wheeling Nailers a 4-3 win against the Reading Royals. Zack Torquato added a goal and an assist for the Nailers while teammate Ryan Flanigan recorded two assists. Mike Condon made 24 saves in the victory.

-Happy 37th birthday to former Penguins forward Georges Laraque. Acquired at the 2007 trade deadline in a deal which sent Daniel Carcillo and a draft pick to the Coyotes, Laraque spent parts of two seasons with the Penguins. He finished 2006-07 by appearing in 17 games for the Penguins and recorded two assists and 18 penalty minutes. In that spring's postseason, Laraque appeared in two games and failed to record a point. Laraque followed that up in 2007-08 by l playing 71 games, scoring 13 points and leading the team with 141 penalty minutes. He appeared in 15 playoff games that spring and scored three points and recorded four penalty minutes. In the 2008 offseason, Laraque joined the Canadiens as a free agent. In 88 regular season games for the Penguins, Laraque scored 15 points and recorded 159 penalty minutes. In 17 postseason games, he scored three points.

Neapolitan Ice Cream Metropolitan Division

-Elias Lindholm had a goal and two assists for the Hurricanes who defeated the Sharks, 5-3. Jay Harrison, Riley Nash and former Penguin Jordan Staal each had a goal and an assist for Carolina while teammate Cam Ward made 22 saves.

-Curtis McElhinney made 20 saves for the Blue Jackets in a 4-0 shutout of the Wild. It was his third career shutout. R.J. Umberger, a native of Plum (No, really!) and Nick Foligno each had a goal and an assist for Columbus while teammate Ryan Johansen recorded two assists.

-With forward Derek Dorsett dealing with a wrist injury, the Rangers recalled forward J.T. Miller, a native of East Palestine, Ohio, from Hartford of the AHL.

-The Rangers acquired minor league forward Kyle Beach, a former first round draft pick in 2008, from the Blackhawks in exchange for minor league forward Brandon Mashinter.

-Flyers forward Vincent Lecavalier is dealing with a back injury.

-The Hurricanes recalled former Penguins forward Zach Boychuk from injured reserve and placed defenseman Mike Komisarek ("lower body") on injured reserve.

Atlantic Division

-A goal and an assist by Tomas Tatar led the Red Wings past the Devils, 3-1. Jonas Gustavsson made all of 10 saves in the victory.

Central Division

-A goal and an assist from former Penguin Maxime Talbot led the Avalanche past the Flames, 3-2. Fire Ray Shero. John Mitchell recorded two assists for Colorado while teammate Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 26 saves.

-Pumped times for Colorado's Nathan MacKinnon:

-Predators captain/defenseman Shea Weber resumed practicing for the first time since suffering a facial injury Nov. 28. He was wearing a visor.

-The Stars placed defenseman Trevor Daley (ankle) on injured reserve and assigned forward Travis Morin to Texas of the AHL.

Pacific Division

-Shootout goals by Nick Bonino and Kyle Palmieri gave the Ducks a 3-2 win against the Blackhawks. Captain Ryan Getzlaf had a regulation goal and an assist for Anaheim while teammate Jonas Hiller made 23 saves. Krys Versteeg recorded a regulation goal and an assist for Chicago.

-Terry Shafer made 24 saves for the Robert Morris men's team in a 4-1 loss to Bentley.

-Matthew Zay had a goal and two assists for the Mercyhurst men's team which routed Sacred Heart, 7-1.

-Matthew Skoff made 33 saves for the Penn State men's team in a 7-1 loss to Penn State.

-Amanda Makela made 35 saves for the Mercyhurst women's team in a 7-0 shutout of Penn State.

-A goal and an assist by Brittany Howard led the Robert Morris women's team a 2-1 win against RIT.

-Jake Moore made 31 saves for the Johnstown Tomahawks who lost to Wenatchee Wild.
