Offensive tendencies - 11-14-13

The statistics which have been most glaring for the Penguins in their ongoing three-game losing streak have been their goal totals. They've only scored three goals, all on the power play.

A statistic which is a little less obvious has been their numbers in terms of offensive zone faceoffs. In the past two games, a loss at home to the Flyers last night and a road loss to the Blues Saturday, they have won fewer than 40 percent of their offensive draws. Things don't get easier tomorrow against the Predators who lead the NHl in overall faceoff winning percentage at 55.2 percent.

When examining the Penguins' 11 wins and seven losses, a pattern of success and failure in offensive zone faceoffs can more often than not be easily connected to their results on the scoreboard:
