Penguins

-"There's a confidence boost that you're so close to recognizing your lifelong dream." - Penguins forward prospect Jayson Megna (right) on his first year of professional hockey in 2012-13 with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

-"You basically are own your own. You have to hold yourself accountable here." - Penguins goaltending prospect Eric Hartzell on life as a professional.

-The Penguins signed Hartzell to a two-year two-way contract.

-Former Penguins forward Tomas Surovy has joined Dinamo Minsk of Russia's KHL.

-Happy 43rd birthday to former Penguins defenseman Lyle Odelein. Infamous for his rivalry with former Penguins antagonist Matthew Barnaby - Baranaby said he looked like Cornelius from "Panet of the Apes" while Odelein simply said Baranaby had an ugly wife - Odelein's Penguins career amounted to 27 games and one assist in 2005-06. Odelein had knee surgery in February 2006 and was not re-signed in the offseason.

-Best quote from that Odelein-Barnaby story: "He should take a look at his wife. She's god-awful to look at."

Neapolitan Ice Cream Metropolitan Division

-The Flyers signed forward Sean Couturier to a two-year contract extension worth $3.5 million. Entering the final year of an entry-level contract with a salary cap hit of $1.375 million, Couturier's new deal will have a cap hit of $1.75 million. In 31 games last season, Couturier, 20, scored 28 points (10 goals, 18 assists).

-EN Says: All of two seasons into his NHL career, Couturier is still developing into a pretty strong two-way player. He saw an increase his production last season and he should only get better. This is a bargain of a cap hit.

Central Division

-The Jets re-signed restricted free agent defenseman Zach Redmond to a one-year two-way contract.

Pacific Division

-The Kings re-signed restricted free agent forward Jordan Nolan (right) to a two-year contract worth $1.4 million. Coming off an entry-level contract with a salary cap hit of $531,667, Nolan's new contract will have a cap hit of $700,000. In 44 games last season, Nolan, 24, scored six points (two goals, four assists).

-EN Says: Nolan has developed into a bruising fourth-line forechecker in a short time with Los Angeles. This is a fair contrac for what he offers.

-The Flames re-signed restricted free agent forward Lance Bouma and Paul Byron to one-year two-way contracts.

Adams Division

-Former Oilers/Islanders/Ducks/Wild/Canadiens/Lightning/Hurricanes defenseman Marc-Andre Bergeron has joined ZSC of Switzerland's NLA.
