-Former Penguins goaltender Dany Sabourin has joined the Graz 99ers of Austria's EBEL.
-Happy 37th birthday to current Penguins goaltender Tomas Vokoun. Acquired in a trade last year, Vokoun played in 20 games last season and had a record of 13-0-4 record along with a 2.45 goals against average, a .919 save percentage and three shutouts. In the postseason, Vokoun appeared in 11 games and had a 6-5 record, a 2.01 goals against average, a .933 save percentage and one shutout.
-The Islanders will us a compliance buyout on the remainder of goaltender Rick DiPietro's contract. The move will relieve the Islanders of DiPietro's salary cap hit of $4.5 million on his contract which was scheduled to expire in 2021. The first overall pick of the 2000 draft, DiPietro, 31, appeared in 318 games for the Islanders in his career and had a 130-138-36 record along with a 2.87 goals against average, .902 save percentage and 16 shutouts.
-Former Bruins all-star goaltender Tim Thomas, who has his rights currently owned by the Islanders, wants to resume his career after taking the 2012-13 season off.
-Unrestricted free agent forward David Clarkson (right) rejected an offer from the Devils and is expected to test the open market Friday.
-The Devils re-signed unrestricted free agent defenseman Peter Harrold to a two-year contract worth a total of $1.6 million. Coming off a contract with a salary cap hit of $525,000, Harrold's new deal will have a cap hit of $800,000. Harrold, 30, appeared in 23 games last season and scored five points (two goals, three assists).
