-Goaltender Brian Foster made 24 saves for the Wheeling Nailers in a season-ending 4-2 road loss to the Allen Americans in Game 6 of the Kelly Cup final. Allen won the best-of-seven series, 4-2.

-The Red Wings hired former Panthers/Kings/Wild head coach John Torchetti as an assistant coach.

-The Stars re-signed defenseman Mattias Backman, a pending restricted free agent, to a one-year two-way contract.

-Hockey Hall-of-Fame forward Gordie Howe has died. He was 88.

-Former Kings/Islanders/Canucks forward Jeff Tambellini has joined Djurgårdens IF of Sweden's SHL.
