S. Highland Ave. Bridge completion pushed back

Written by Jon Schmitz on .

When construction began on the South Highland Avenue Bridge in East Liberty in March, the city projected completion by mid-September. Didn’t happen. Now we learn from the city that the contractor has until Oct. 21 to finish the replacement project without being penalized for lateness.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike will have 20-minute traffic paces between Monroeville (Exit 57) and Butler Valley (Exit 39) from 11:59 p.m. today through 5 a.m. Tuesday. State police will restrict westbound turnpike traffic to speeds of 20 to 25 mph allowing the contractor to set steel beams on the new Rich Hill Road overhead bridge at mile 46.3. Eastbound traffic will not be slowed down.

Traffic on Route 28 will be restricted to one lane in both directions overnight starting this evening. The restrictions will be in place after 8 p.m. between East Ohio Street and the 40th Street Bridge today through Friday, with work concluding by 5 a.m. each day. The lane closures also will be in effect from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday during continuing work on the ramps at the 31st Street Bridge.

Interstate 79 traffic will be restricted to one lane in both directions on the Neville Island Bridge at times today through Friday. A contractor will wash the bridge. Work will occur from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, closing the right lane at times. Starting next Monday, bridge inspection will cause periodic right-lane closures on the bridge during the same hours, continuing through Oct. 11.

Interstate 376 will have restrictions for paving between Center (Exit 42) to just west of Hopewell (Exit 48) in Beaver County, with one westbound lane closed until 3 p.m. today and an eastbound lane closed until 10 p.m. today.

The ramp from northbound Route 51 to northbound Route 837 in West Elizabeth was scheduled to be closed starting today and continuing around the clock through Oct. 18. The detour is to continue on northbound Route 51 past the closed off-ramp, exit to Ridge Road-Clairton; turn left at the stop sign onto Ridge Road; take the on-ramp to southbound Route 51; and exit from the left lane to northbound Route 837.

The westbound on-ramp from Electric Avenue to Route 30 in North Braddock will be closed through 6 a.m. Wednesday, with traffic detoured via the Tri-Boro Expressway and Mosside Boulevard. Shoulder work will cause a right-lane closure on the eastbound Tri-Boro Expressway between Monroeville Avenue and Patton Street in Wilmerding through Sept. 30.

Lane closures are possible during lighting replacement after 7 p.m. today through Friday on these roads: I-79 from Washington County to Butler County; Parkway North from the I-79 split to the Fort Duquesne Bridge; I-579-Crosstown Boulevard from I-279 to the Veterans Bridge; the Parkway East and Parkway West throughout Allegheny County; Route 28 from Millvale to Harmarville; and Route 65 from the Fort Duquesne Bridge to the McKees Rocks Bridge. Work concludes daily by 6 a.m.

Magee Road Extension will be closed around-the-clock through 11 p.m. Oct. 6 between Camp Meeting Road and Pleuchel Road in Franklin Park. The detour follows Camp Meeting Road, Henry Road, Little Sewickley Creek Road and Magee Road-Red Mud Hollow Road.
