Where the cones and barrels will be this weekend

menatworkAs we await (and dread) the July 26 closings of the outbound Squirrel Hill and Liberty tunnels and the July 29 shutdown of outbound West Carson Street, there’s plenty to be mindful of in our travels around the ‘Burgh this weekend.

Work on Route 19/Washington Road, Connor Road and Gilkeson Road in Mt. Lebanon will cause traffic restrictions throughout the weekend. Traffic on Washington Road will be limited to one lane in both directions from Connor/Gilkeson to Ordale Road from 6 p.m. today to 6 a.m. Monday. Eastbound traffic on Gilkeson and Connor will be shifted to the westbound side with single-lane traffic in both directions at 7 p.m. Saturday. After work on the eastbound side is completed, traffic will shift there, still with a single-lane pattern, until 10 a.m. Sunday. The restrictions are part of a project to resurface Washington Road and add a through lane from Gilkeson to Connor.

Inspections of a railroad bridge in West Mifflin will restrict traffic from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday on Delwar Road approximately 200 feet north of the intersection of Lebanon Church Road. Flaggers will direct traffic.

The Route 65 work zone will stretch out again this weekend, with single-lane traffic in both directions from 8 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday from Elizabeth Avenue in Avalon to the McKees Rocks Bridge during milling and paving.

Overnight closures on the ramp from northbound South Braddock Avenue to the inbound Parkway East are continuing at 9 p.m. nightly through July 29, except Sundays. The ramp reopens at 5 a.m. weekdays, 10 a.m. weekends. The ramp from southbound South Braddock to the inbound parkway will remain open.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike will be closed in both directions between Butler Valley (Exit 39) and Allegheny Valley (Exit 48) from 11:59 p.m. Saturday until 5 a.m. Sunday. The detour will follow Routes 8, 28 and 910 and Freeport Road. Crews will set beams for the new Middle Road bridge over the pike.

A reminder that the Liberty Tunnels close overnight in both directions at 10 p.m. daily except Saturday, reopening by 6 a.m. The Squirrel Hill Tunnels have single-lane traffic after 10 p.m. daily except Sundays, with all lanes open by 5 a.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. on weekends.

Paving will continue on Castle Shannon Boulevard between Route 88 and Willow Avenue in Shannon starting at 7 p.m. today. Alternating one-way traffic will be in place until 3 a.m. Friday, per Shannon police.
