Major slide on Great Allegheny Passage near Kennywood

Written by Jon Schmitz on .

A major landslide blocked the Great Allegheny Passage near Kennywood on June 29. A small section of trail has since been cleared to make it passable. The Steel Valley Trail Council will discuss maintenance and rockslides at its 6 p.m. meeting tonight at the historic Pump House in Homestead. The meeting is open to the public. Our online story about all of the road construction that begins this week is here. One cautionary note -- information from Castle Shannon police about the work on Castle Shannon Boulevard is that the first phase will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday and continue overnight. That differs from what PennDOT District 11 said. At any rate, you'll want to avoid CSB from Route 88 to Willow Ave. after 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Fifth Avenue will be closed between Wood and Smithfield streets in Downtown Pittsburgh after 7 p.m. today and Tuesday for overnight work on the new PNC office tower. That will cause detours on 14 Port Authority bus routes. Learn more here.
