743 pedestrian deaths in five years in Pa.

PennDOT has produced four new YouTube videos aimed at educating children, motorists and parents about pedestrian safety. The videos can be viewed here. Over the past five years, there were 4,558 pedestrian injuries and 743 pedestrians killed in the 22,144 crashes involving pedestrians in Pennsylvania. A disproportionate number of those killed were under 18.

JUST IN: Paving that was postponed because of rain on Wednesday will occur tonight on Washington, Connor and Gilkeson roads in Mt. Lebanon, PennDOT announced this afternoon. The work will begin around 6 p.m. and close the right lane in both directions on Washington Road from Connor and Gilkeson to Ordale Road. Traffic on Connor and Gilkeson will be shifted to the westbound side, with one lane open in both directions from Old Gilkeson Road to East Terrace Drive and Sunridge Road.

Route 65 will have traffic restrictions during paving in Avalon and Bellevue this weekend. A single-lane pattern will be in effect in both directions from 8 p.m. today until 6 a.m. Monday between Elizabeth Avenue and the McKees Rocks Bridge.

A new traffic pattern will take effect on the southbound side of Brownsville Road in the construction zone Monday and Tuesday. From 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. both days, traffic control devices will be removed and traffic guided to a new southbound lane alignment on Brownsville from Curry Hollow to Cochrans Mill roads. Police and flaggers will direct traffic. The shift is part of the ongoing Brownsville-Broughton Road intersection project.

Inspection of the Liberty Bridge will cause right-lane closures in both directions at the section passing over the Light Rail Transit tracks from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today.

Repair work will close a bridge on Mayview Road in South Fayette today. The work will continue until 7 p.m. between Boyce and Georgetown roads. Drivers will be detoured via Boyce Road, Washington Pike, Morganza Road and Georgetown Road.

The signs have been up for a while and now it’s really going to start: Milling and resurfacing on Castle Shannon Boulevard in Castle Shannon will cause alternating one-way traffic between Route 88 and Willow Avenue on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. starting Monday. Work will conclude in late August.

Parkway Center Drive in Green Tree will have overnight single-lane traffic starting at 9 p.m. Monday and continuing on weeknights through mid-August for paving between Greentree Road and Mall Drive. Restrictions to be lifted by 5 a.m. daily.

Montour Run Bridges No. 4 and 5 in North Fayette and Findlay will close at 7 a.m. Monday and remain closed through mid-November, Allegheny County announced. Bridge No. 4 is on Enlow Road at Cliff Mine Road. No. 5 is on Cliff Mine Road at Oak Moss Drive. Enlow Road will be closed to through traffic at Cliff Mine Road. Cliff Mine Road will be closed to through traffic from Enlow Road to Oak Moss Drive.

Port Authority’s Library Line will be closed south of Washington Junction for most of the day Saturday and Sunday during tree-trimming along the right-of-way. The closure and detour will begin with start of service and end at approximately 4 p.m. both days. The work requires power to be turned off along the affected portion of the line. Blue Line-Library service will serve its normal stops between the North Shore and Washington Junction, then detour to South Hills Village. T stops on the closed section will be served instead by bus shuttles operating in both directions between Washington Junction and Library Station.
