Catching up on the road work beat after two days on assignment in beautiful Cleveland, O.
For some reason, I remember this ditty from a record I listened to as a child:
Oh me-o, oh my-o
In Cleveland, Ohio,
We’ll all have a wonderful time
On Lake Erie’s shore
The sailboats galore
Will give you a thrill you’ve not had before
There’s a good bit of road and building construction going on, but Downtown Cleveland is looking pretty good these days. If you’re looking for a day or couple-day trip, you could do worse.
Liberty Bridge traffic gets a break from lane closures during the continuing inspection work next week, but lanes will close on roads beneath the bridge. Look for restrictions on First and Second avenues and Municipal Courts Drive from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. No bridge or ramp lane closures are scheduled.
Ongoing construction will cause traffic restrictions on Washington Road, Cochran Road, Connor Road and Gilkeson Road in Mt. Lebanon starting tonight, PennDOT. These restrictions will be in place starting at 6 p.m. today and ending by 6 a.m. Monday: Southbound Washington Road will be reduced to one lane from Cochran to Connor-Gilkeson; Cochran will be one lane in both directions between Florida Avenue and Washington Road; the left lane on Connor will be closed in both directions from Washington Road to East Terrace Drive-Sunridge Road; the left lane on Gilkeson will be closed in both directions from Washington Road to Old Gilkeson Road.
Inspection of the bridge that carries the Parkway East over Route 30-Ardmore Boulevard in Wilkinsburg will cause intermittent lane closures on Ardmore in both directions from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Wednesday.
Inspection of the 31st Street Bridge will cause lane closures in both directions from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. A lane will close on Smallman and Railroad streets under the bridge from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
Inspection of the bridge that carries the Parkway West over Whiskey Run and Bell Avenue near the Carnegie exit will close the right inbound lane from 5 a.m. to noon Saturday and the right outbound lane from 5 a.m. to noon Sunday.
Inspection may close a lane either way on the 40th Street Bridge until 3 p.m. today.
Replacement of pavement markings on the Fort Pitt and Fort Duquesne bridges will cause overnight lane restrictions after 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays through July 3. All ramps to remain open.
Concrete patching will cause restrictions on Route 51-Fourth Street in Coraopolis from Ferree to Lower Thorn streets from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Only one lane will be open. Expect delays. Flag crews and police will direct traffic.
We’re tardy to the party on this one: PennDOT began closures on Beaver Avenue on the North Side on Thursday. The as-needed closures will occur between Island Avenue on Branchport Street from 3 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily during work on the overhead ramp through Aug. 31. Also, the turnaround from Chateau Street to Beaver Avenue nearest Island Avenue will remain closed through the end of August.
