Don't let your car get paint-bombed

Written by Jon Schmitz on .

The warm weather has brought out PennDOT line painting trucks, and its annual admonition to motorists to stay back 250 feet, or about 13 car lengths, lest your vehicle get painted, too. Don’t pass a paint truck unless crews direct you to do so. Trucks will occasionally pull over to let traffic by. The paint dries in two to three minutes. PennDOT is not responsible for most paint damage.

roadworkaheadUPDATE: This work has been postponed: The two center lanes on both decks of the Fort Pitt Bridge will close overnight starting at 10 p.m. today for repairs to crash barriers, PennDOT announced. Work will be completed and the lanes reopened by 5 a.m. Wednesday.

Yep, it’s happening again. The outbound Squirrel Hill Tunnel will close from 10 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday. Delays on the detour route through Squirrel Hill topped 90 minutes at times last weekend. Tentative plans call for additional outbound closures May 10-13 and May 17-20.

Several weekend detours are planned on the Red Line of the Port Authority’s Light Rail Transit system to allow track repairs in Beechview. On Saturday and Sunday, inbound service will operate from South Hills Village to Overbrook Junction, then detour via the Blue Line route to South Hills Junction, where it will resume regular routing. Rail shuttles will operate between Overbrook Junction and Potomac and bus shuttles will serve stops from Potomac to South Hills Junction. Outbound service will operate normally. Inbound work and detours also are tentatively scheduled for April 27-28, May 11-12 and May 18-19.

PennDOT has closed the turnaround from Chateau Street to Beaver Avenue near the Route 65 Marshall Avenue interchange to begin construction of a new pedestrian ramp. The turnaround will be closed around the clock through May 31. The posted detour is to continue on Chateau to a left on Island Avenue, left on Preble Avenue, left on Branchport Street to Beaver.

A section of Mount Troy Road Extension between Mount Troy Road and Peoples Township Road in Ross has been closed. It is scheduled to reopen by the end of the day on Friday May 3. Drainage and pavement work will be performed.

Interstate 80 road work will cause lane restrictions in both directions east and west of the Grove City-Sandy Lake exit for the rest of the week.
