Rain keeps Route 28-Vets Bridge ramps open

Written by Jon Schmitz on .

The monsoon-type weather forecast for this weekend has washed out PennDOT’s plans to close the ramps connecting inbound Route 28 to the Veterans Bridge and the ramp from the bridge to outbound Route 28.

The ramp connecting the 10th Street Bypass to the outbound Fort Pitt Bridge and Parkway West will be closed next week, weather permitting. (The current forecast would indicate that it’s not going to permit.) Crews will replace an approach slab on the Fancourt Bridge and do other construction. The closures are scheduled for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday and 4 a.m. Tuesday around the clock until 11 p.m. Saturday. Posted detour via Stanwix Street and Liberty Avenue.

Inbound Route 28 will close overnight and traffic will be detoured via the 40th Street Bridge starting at 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Traffic on the 40th Street Bridge will not be able to access inbound Route 28; access to outbound Route 28 and Millvale will remain open. Outbound stoppages of up to 15 minutes are possible in the work zone. Crews will begin demolition of buildings on the former Allegheny Auto Body property. Road reopens at 5 a.m. daily.

The inbound Parkway East will be closed from Grant Street to Stanwix Street from 9 p.m. Tuesday to 5 a.m. Wednesday.

Reminder about Squirrel Hill Tunnel restrictions: one lane closed both directions 11 p.m. today to 10 a.m. Saturday; no restrictions Saturday night; one lane closed both directions 11 p.m. next Monday-Tuesday to 6 a.m. next day.

Bridge repairs will cause single-lane traffic both ways on McKnight Road between Arcadia and Blazier drives in McCandless from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays starting Monday through Dec. 21.
