Pirates players call for 'blackout' at PNC Park


When the Pirates play the National League wild card game tomorrow at PNC Park (recap: first playoff game at PNC ever, first time the team has gone to the post-season in 21 years), the players are calling for a blackout. No, not an electrical failure, but a call for fans at the game to all wear the same color clothing, to match the team's colors. Most fans are familiar with the concept; it's most frequently achieved with white, orange or red jerseys, and the effect can be impressive.

McCutchen went so far as to try to persuade a fan's reluctant father to take part in the dress code:


96.1 KISS-FM morning DJ Michael "Tall Mikey" Dougherty took it a step further and put a Pittsburghese accent on the hashtag:


So if you are one of the lucky ones with a ticket to the game, make sure you dress accordingly: More black than gold.
