The Association of Food Journalists recognized our talented colleagues in the food department for their yummy coverage. "The awards, which recognized excellence in 16 categories of food writing and editing, received 290 entries worldwide." Fifty three winners have been announced today and our folks have won in three categories.
Our food editor and beer connoisseur Bob Batz, who by the way has a great story about the upcoming Okterbest weekend in today's Post-Gazette, won the second place in the Best Newspaper Food Coverage (below 200,000 circulation) category.
The Post-Gazette shared the first place for a best newspaper special food project with The Kansas City Star. "This Is Pittsburgh Food" -- our occasional series from Gretchen McKay on local food traditions will satisfy any Pittsburgh reader's appetite.
And last but not least the PG's Gretchen McKay and Steve Mellon won the first place in Best Food Multimedia Presentation category. Just check out one of their superb productions, "Making Sausage" (below).
