blight
Many mornings on my walk to work, I pass the building in this photo -- a parking garage with a U.S. Post Office on the corner. It is a high-traffic intersection at Fort Duquesne Boulevard and Stanwix Street, and the view is less than stellar: a parking garage with rust stains and plywood.

Blight Spotting is a new program through which Scenic Pittsburgh offers the public the chance to send in photos of blight so the non-profit can champion the improvement of these sites.

Its targets are excessive signage, neglect and litter.

“When appropriate, Scenic Pittsburgh will contact the proper authorities to report blighted properties,” it reports on its web site. “With your help, we can clean up blighted spaces and turn them into vibrant, healthy and beautiful destinations.”
