He rescued animal house & lived to tell the tale

Written by Diana Nelson Jones on .

If you love old houses, if you dare to even believe you love old houses, Ron Tanner could make you wonder if you're in the House Love Minor Leagues. (I know some of you have made the majors.)

I’m so lightweight I don’t deserve to carry his spackle pail but I laughed vicariously through this 10 minute video.

If you can get to Construction Junction, 214 North Lexington St., Point Breeze, on Friday by 6.30p, he will forewarn you of his personal trip through the agony and ecstasy of bringing back to life a condemned Baltimore Victorian that had been brutally abused by frat boys. He and his now-wife, Jill, were newly dating when they undertook this monster... and they're still together.

In which case you might want to go just to touch him to see if he's real.

Preservation Pittsburgh and Construction Junction are jointly sponsoring the talk and book signing of Tanner’s true story, “From Animal House to Our House.” His topic: “Seven Mistakes You Don’t Want to Make in Your Old House.”

Like beware of dragging your new girlfriend into a venture of this magnitude; she might not be as stalwart as you'd hoped. Or not.

It starts at 6p with a half hour for everyone to get situated. The book signing and reception starts at 7:30p.

This event  is free and open to the public but you are asked to call 412-243-5025 so the organizers can know how many people, roughly, will have to get situated.
