All eyes are on the fashion industry this week, with New York Fashion Week underway through Thursday -- and the industry is taking advantage of the extra attention to show its support for Planned Parenthood.

As one of his initial executive orders as president, Donald Trump took steps last month to defund International Planned Parenthood. In response, the Council of Fashion Designers of America -- the governing body for fashion designers in America -- wants to highlight the full scope of work the organization provides for families and women. Throughout Fashion Week, pink pins that read "Fashion Stands with Planned Parenthood" will be distributed to guests, and those taking part in the week's events are encouraged to wear them or share photos of them on Instagram.

"Civic responsibility is an important CFDA pillar. Defunding Planned Parenthood will impact millions of Americans. We will raise awareness and support this fashion week and show that 'Fashion Stands with Planned Parenthood,'” CFDA president and CEO Steven Kolb said in a statement.

More than 40 designers and brands are participating, including Tracy Reese, Diane von Furstenberg, Tory Burch, Zac Posen, Prabal Gurung and Mara Hoffman

"We know that so many people stand with Planned Parenthood -- including designers and entertainers -- because they and their loved ones have relied on Planned Parenthood for health care, including life-saving care like cancer screenings, birth control, STI testing and treatment and sex education,” designer Ms. Reese, a CFDA board member, said. “Planned Parenthood is often the only option for this type of care in underserved communities. By creating a visually engaging and fashionable pin, we hope to create an organic social media movement promoting awareness and education.”
