Summer is here! Five steps to get feet ready for sandal season

Written by Sara Bauknecht on .

With the start of summer arriving Friday, the thick of sandal season is officially here. Are you — and more importantly your feet — ready?

Here are five at-home steps to help your feet get back in beach-worthy shape.GEOPHYZZ web 200

1.) Soak: Wake up your toes with some time in the tub. Fill up a basin with sudsy warm water that will help soften dried, cracked skin left behind from the harsh winter months. Boost the relaxation factor by adding favorite scented bath oils and salts.

Product idea: Bath bombs by LUSH make skin soft and ease sore muscles. Plus, they come in an assortment of water-changing colors and scents, including ones hailed for their “phyzz-iotherapy.” Try the geo phyzz kind ($4.95; www.lush.com), made from Hawaiian sea salt coated with volcanic clay that’s rich with minerals.

2.) Scrub: Wash away winter blues with a scrub specially formulated for tackling rough skin.

Product idea: Peppermint foot scrubs by Simple Sugars ($12.95; simplesugars.myshopify.com) exfoliate feet with an all-natural blend of linoleic safflower oil and peppermint essential oil.

3.) Buff: Don’t let calluses cramp your style. Recruit pumice stones, buffers and files to help eliminate them before slipping into strappy stilettos, peek-a-boo pumps and other seasonal shoes.

Product idea: The Emjoi micro-pedi battery operated callus remover ($30; www.qvc.com) painlessly smooths skin within seconds with its gentle rotating head.

4.) Polish: Make your pedicure pop with nail colors that channel the season’s hues, from the cyan sky to a radiant orange sunset. Or jazz up a neutral look with something neon.

Product idea: The “Naughty Nautical” collection from essie ($8 per bottle; www.essie.com) is sassy-yet-chic, thanks to shades such as “The More the Merrier” (lime green), “Sunday Funday” (coral), “The Girls Are Out” (fuchsia) and “Rock the Boat” (periwinkle).

5.) Moisturize: Keep feet silky all summer by moisturizing daily, especially after time at the pool, strolling along hot sand or doing a lot of walking.

Product idea: True Blue Spa gel socks ($25; www.bathandbodyworks.com) condition feet with natural oils and Vitamin E, ideal for rejuvenating before another day of summer fun. But get them while you can -- they leave stores at the end of the month!
