New York Fashion Week preview ... trend predictions

Written by Sara Bauknecht on .

For the fashion industry, today might as well be Christmas Eve -- New York Fashion Week starts tomorrow!  Trend experts at WGSN are gearing up by annoucing what they anticipate to be the hot looks that designers could have in store for next fall and winter.

Sweatshirts:  The new "it" top in four key styles -- all-over prints, collegiate, feminine and animal graphics

Pleated mini-skirts:  Think school girl uniform, with more style

Ultra wide-leg trousers:  Move over skinny jeans.  It's time for wide-legged pants to have a turn

Velvet and leather:  They're luxurious, elegant and will add a touch of warmth to cold weather apparel as either accents to other fabrics or as all-over looks

Deep V's:  Stars like Jennifer Lopez have been gearing up for some time for this trend -- daring, plunging necklines and deep back V cuts (think Michelle Obama's red inaugural ball gown from Jason Wu)

Coated and bonded fabrics:  Creativity abounds with combos such as sheer chiffons or rubberized lace coupled with wool

What do you think of these predictions, and what trends would you like to see for fall/winter 2013?  Share your thoughts in the comment thread below.
