It's so wonderful to walk out into the garden and see 'Stargazer' in bloom. It's even more amazing to experience the perfume released from the flower as it hangs in the summer air.

This is a great time to plant the bulbs if you'd like the summer garden to be graced by 'Stargazer' or other lilies.

Nurseries are discounting them by 50 percent.

Lilies are easy to grow and will thrive in part sun and good soil for decades.

Compost is the key in preparing the soil. Get a bag of compost and dig it into the garden where the bulbs will be planted. The lilies will reward you with years of pretty, aromatic flowers.

I'm going to plant more lilies, not just 'Stargazer' but anything else I can find which looks interesting.

Part of my garden chores for the last few years is to extend the season of interest in my garden. It's wonderful in mid-May when the rhododendrons and azaleas bloom, but in past seasons, has gone downhill from there.

The addition of hydrangeas and lilies makes the garden fun and exciting to be in during the summer.
