Anyone who reads this blog, knows I love talking dandelions. They are the most nutritious plant on the planet.
I'll be presenting "Do Eat The Dandelions," this Saturday 4/6/13, 3pm at Marty's Market. The store is located at 23rd and Smallman in the Strip District.
The free program will explain how to harvest wild dandelions, how to grow cultivated species and you'll be served some great dandelion recipes too.
The chef at Marty's Market is creating a Dandelion Pesto from my secret recipe and I'll be making a Carmalized Onion, Prosciutto, Dandelion Pizza. You'll get a recipe card to make a wonderful dandelion crumble desert too.
It's all free and open to the public, I hope to see you Saturday. I'll be giving away seeds from a cultivated Italian heirloom variety.
This is the perfect time to start harvesting the greens. Be sure the area is not treated with chemicals and pick a few to eat raw in the garden. They have a bitter flavor, but that's where all the nutrients are, it's an acquired taste. Once you learn to love those dandelions, you'll find lots of ways to use them in the kitchen.
