This is the time I plant some pansies in containers and keep them close to the house.

It's still cold out there, but pansies can take it. I've had pansies out in the garden all winter that are getting ready to bloom.

Pansies planted now should get plenty of water, some protection on a porch. It's wonderful to have some color right now.

Here's a video from KDKA's Pittsburgh Today Live where I plant black and gold pansies and announce my latest book project with St. Lynn's Press.

“The Steel City Garden: Creating a one of a kind garden in black and gold” is the title. It comes out in November of 2014, but I'm looking for gardens with black and gold plants and themes.
