Free seeds for teachers on Monday 3/11/13

It’s that time again for the Rockledge Garden Club’s Heather Uber Free Seed for Teachers Program.
All teachers from kindergarten to middle school are invited to pick up free seeds from 3:30 p.m. until 4:45 p.m. on Monday March 11th, 2013 at Phipps Garden Center, 1059 Shady Ave, Pittsburgh (not the conservatory).
This is the 42nd year the garden club has made seeds available to teachers.
Last year 140 teachers participated from schools throughtout the area.
Through the teachers they introduced over 3,000 school age children to gardening. Seeds are used for germination studies, journals, math & science projects, school beautification and Earth Day projects.
The kits include 30 - 40 packets of seeds and a small bag of planting mix (courtesy of Phipps). Seeds are provided by distributors from across the country. Seed trays and pots collected by the members are available to the teachers on a first come first serve basis.
