WPIAL quarterfinal predictions

Varsity Blog program note: Tonight's live blog will be from the Central Catholic-Upper St. Clair game. But we will have reports and score updates from all WPIAL quarterfinal games. For now, here are predictions for this week's WPIAL quarterfinals. I would say as a group, the Class AAAA quarterfinals are the best of any class. There are most certainly some intriguing matchups.

And before I get to the predictions, I have to share with you a good line from Central Catholic's Terry Totten this week. He answered his cell phone before practice and I asked him simply how he was doing. He answered: "Ahhhhh, just trying to figure out how to keep Render from getting number 800."

I had to laugh.

Anyway, today's Post-Gazette had a quick look at every WPIAL quarterfinal game.

Now, the predictions: Last week's record: 29-3

CLASS AAAA -  North Allegheny over Bethel Park; Seneca Valley over Mt. Lebanon; Gateway over Woodland Hills (although don't be surprised if Woodland Hills pulls out a win); Upper St. Clair over Central Catholic.

CLASS AAA - Thomas Jefferson over Franklin Regional; Montour over West Allegheny (there will be touchdowns scored in this game I firmly believe. The last time they met, the score was 5-3); Mars over West Mifflin; Central Valley over Hopewell.

CLASS AA - Aliquippa over Mount Pleasant; Jeannette over Beaver (I changed my pick from Varsity Xtra video earlier in the week); South Fayette over Beaver Falls; Washington over Seton-LaSalle (although I think Seton-LaSalle is a lot better than people think).

CLASS A - Clairton over Brentwood; Monessen over Neshannock; Sto-Rox over Union; Rochester over North Catholic.
