Four teams move football playoff games
The WPIAL playoffs begin Friday and four teams have moved home games to stadiums with artificial turf.
The WPIAL last night announced that, because of the rainy weather from Hurricane Sandy, teams that were scheduled to play home games on natural grass Friday had until Thursday at 9 a.m. to decide whether to move their games to a school with artificial turf. If they did not move the games, the WPIAL reserved the right to move the games.
As of this evening, four of the 12 teams scheduled to play host to games on natural grass had moved the games to schools with artifical turf. They are Aliquippa, Jeannette, Springdale and Washington. Aliquippa will play Steel Valley at Moon. Jeannette will play South Allegheny at Norwin. Springdale will play Brentwood at Fox Chapel. Washington will play Shady Side Academy at Washington & Jefferson College.
WPIAL executive director Tim O'Malley said the other eight teams are still considering whether to move their games.
