What about the grass fields?

Written by Mike White on .

We will post the WPIAL football playoff pairings on our Post-Gazette breaking news page later tonight, and also on this blog.

But with the weather, there is suddenly a major question about the first round of the playoffs: What will happen to the games that will be played on grass fields?

Thirty-two of the 64 teams in the playoffs will play host to first-round games. Most of those teams play on artificial turf. But some do not.

Don't be surprised if the WPIAL announces tonight that some games played on natural grass might be moved to a neutral site with turf. Really, it would be the best thing. Some of these grass fields will be a mess by the end of the week.

All of the Class AAAA and AAA teams with home games have turf. But some in Class AA and Class A have grass. Stay tuned on this one.
